Hi guys, just would like to share God's goodness in my life in the past 1 week. I have experienced so many times in my life when I decided to honour God above all things, setting aside my own selfish ambition and God truly sees the heart and He bless me with things which is much better than what I could ever think of. Last week, I experienced it again.

Some of you might know that I was really busy last week preparing for my church pre-evangelistic event, night cycling on Friday night (my race was on Sunday morning)! It is the first time my church young-adult ministry oranising an outdoor event! moreover it is in a really huge scale (100 participants). It was a logistical nightmate and a lot of things needed to be done! So I was really busy organising the whole event with my team (who did a marvellous job!), and along the way I was really tired and questioning myself why do I agree to take on this role of organising this event! Those sporty people should know that before big race, you have to taper (combination of rest and reducing your acitivity so that your body can recover fully from the training you've done so far), well I basically "screw-up" my taper, as I have to run around, cycle, recce-ing the night-cycling route and etc. As the stress of organising such a huge-scale event really get into me, I prayed to God and surrender the whole event into His hands and also the race on Sunday, I asked God to give me peace in my heart knowing that He will take care of the night-cycling event and the race for me, all I need to do is to organise this event as well as I could. Carissa also encouraged me along the way and asked me to surrender everything to God.
The night-cycling turned out to be a success! and yeah! I really thank God for it.

On Friday night, the whole thing ends at 2am++, I reached home at 3am, feeling totally crappy and leg totally tired (not a good way to taper for Half-Ironman race).
On Saturday, I sent my bike to the race-area for check-in, and caught in the rain! I was really piss off, as the plan was to check-in my bike and go home immediately to rest! but the rain really spoil the whole plan and I reached home late around 8pm. That night I was even more discouraged and feeling like I will not be able to race my best, again I pray to God and surrender my race to Him.
On Sunday, a few hours before the race it was raining/drizzling! and again I was discouraged! (gosh I was discouraged many times I know!), as I hate racing in rain. And again I was just asking God to stop the rain not just for me, but also for the rest of the competitors as it is dangerous to race when there's heavy downpour. God miracolously stopped the rain like 30mins before the race start! I can't believe it! During the cycling, my back ache! and feel that I'm not in a 100% capacity to race, but I just keep going and not give up! I had my personal best time, but was not really happy because I know that if I do not have backache and if I taper properly I would have gone even faster (that's my flesh not being grateful!).

It is during those time when I feel down and being "unthankful" to God, that God bless me even more! After the race I realised that I qualified for the Half-Ironman World Championship in Clearwater Florida for being one of the best in my age group (18-24years old). I was really surprised! I gladly accept it and was just filled with excitement and wonder of God's love and goodness in my life.

Again, through this experience I was reminded on how God truly honours those who honours Him. I believed that God is trying to see where's my heart is when the going gets tough (from the stress of organising a huge-scale event), am I organising the event for Him, or out of obligation..am I racing for the glory of God or just for my selfish ambition? can I surrender everything to Him and trust His plan for my life? I'm thankful during the stressful times, the uncertain times in my life I have been able to surrender almost every things into God's hand (of course there are some stuff which I have not, I'm still a sinner!), and I believe God honours faithfulness. I give all glory to God again, when I race in Clearwater Florida on the 14th November, I will remember God's love/goodness in my life and I will honour Him by racing for the glory of God, and that I will never boast of my achievement during the race because it is all God's glory!

after much thought and discussion at Coffee Bean the previous week, our ingenius idea for a Deepavali SIMCCC outing was to go for steamboat. i know.. BORING RIGHT? not so! :)

if you weren't able to join us that day.. TOO BAD. hur hur.

the funny thing is, i brought my camera, but sadly my camera was neglected that day cos of 2 other hotshots. :) andrew brought his DSLR camera which of course meant all the other mere standard digicams had to make way for his camera. haha. and the thing is, the guys were taking MORE pictures than the girls. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO? :)

(i really really love the DSLR's pictures and the focus btw. i think i just have no skill whatsoever with cameras. well done, andrew! :) thanks to daniel for uploading too! at such a late hour no less. :) )

August 4th, 2008 Life Meeting!

hello folks, for all those that failed to join us, here are brief snippets of what happened on august 4th. :)

we had our 2nd LM of the year at Le Crescendo condo in Paya Lebar. thanks to Tian Hao and his friend for helping us book the function room.

we started with a time of fellowship which of course includes FOOOOD! :D

games was next with a super impromptu game of ming meng mong. don't know how to play? join us and we'll show you how! :D

calyn taking down the score, and everyone laughing hysterically.

after games, we settled down for the Word, with our SC - Ezra. :)

bibles out everyone! look at our communications IC - SUPER HIGH TECH CAN? PDA LEHHHH.

we ended with a time of worship, but NO ONE TOOK PICS DURING WORSHIP. -__- oh wells, there'll always be a next time. :D

we're having a break, so the next LM will be on the 18th August 2008, Monday. venue has yet to be confirmed. as soon as there are updates, our communications IC - Tian Hao will be contacting you. :)

Post Ironman Reflection

Ironman race produces varied emotional reactions from people. Some competitors describe the race as a nonstop joyfest which they revel in every moment. They love every second from the start of the ironman training program to the arrival at the race to crossing the finishing line. Others totally hate it; describing it as 6 months and 226km of hell. The monotony of the training, fatigue, injuries, strained relationships...the apprehension and fear of the swim, the discomfort and boredom of the bike and the painful, seemingly never-ending marathon. For me, I have to say I love every second of it. Some of my most intimate moments with God occur during my training. And the race....it's an amazing experience that I believe everyone should experience it once in their life (if you're properly trained)

The roller coaster that is my six months of Ironman training speeds up in the days leading up to Ironman. All of a sudden, I realise that all those hours and miles I've logged are going to be put to the test. I feel like I've devoted so much time and energy with no guarantees that the "investment" will be justified. The dominant emotions felt on the days leading up to Ironman is apprehension of the unknown; will I crash again? will my tyre burst? will I cramp on the run? and others....

On the race day I feel a mixture of excitement and anticipation of having this moment finally arrive, trepidation at the uncertainty of what lies ahead....

The swim is the easiest, well..maybe because it's the first event, it's short in duration compared to the bike and run and I'm still well rested. But still, completing the swim was a great relief.

The bike was tough. The real challenge of Ironman start to emerge during the halfway point of the bike. My saddle screw got loose...the saddle went down and I'm in a very awkward position in the bike. I stop, and tried to tighten the loose screw using my finger..it was a futile effort, after just 5 minutes the saddle's screw loosen again. I waited for 15minutes for the bike mechanic bus, but it never appear..so I decided to continue with the backache cause by the low position of the saddle. After 100km on the bike, the reality of the race hit me; I'm tired, hungry, thirsty and worst of all..I'm having backache! I can't even generate any power to pedal. I find solace in the "free speed" i get from downhill and the occasional cold water I spray at myself at every aid station. I prayed to God to give me strength, to protect my back..to just let me finish the bike. I believe God gave me the confidence and strength to finish the bike even though I'm suffering from a terrible backache; never once I have doubt that I would not be able to finish the bike. With the end of the bike in sight and even though a marathon lies ahead, I'm just happy to be getting off my bike. I felt a rise in emotion, feel a reinvigoration of energy, renewed confidence excitement and motivation. It's only 42km more...that's what I thought...

After the first 11km of the run, the backache subside..and the first 21km was "easy". By the time I hit 30km, I saw most of the field walking, many cramping, some defeated, some have fainted...but few show happy faces, determined to march to the finish. My stomach shut down, can't drink anymore electrolyte, all I can swallow was coke, plain water..and power gels every one hour. It is during these difficult moments during the run that I have one of the most intimate moments with God. I was talking to Him throughout the run. I was telling Him how tired I was, how cold it was at night...I never feel lonely at all during the course, I can really feel His presence, encouraging me to continue running and don't give up. I believe, is all these small intimate moments I have with God, a time when I can feel the connection between God and me strengthen my faith with Him. I'm thankful that one of my most intimate moment with God was during Ironman. I can feel a sense purpose, joy and pride in doing this "crazy" events as described by many.

Finally, the finishing line....after hours of discomfort,and a seemingly empty fuel tank, with the finish within reach...I find a store of energy that I don't even know existed. There is an air of unabashed joy and excitement as I approach the end of this Ironman journey. Entering the final stretch, with the crowds cheering, the music blasting, and the announcer screaming "ANDY LORDIANTO...YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!!!" all I can think was.."Thank you God..thank you". I realised all the months of effort was so worth it...for this moment.

It is an amazing experience. My relationship and faith with God strengthen tremendously. At first, I don't know why I feel that way...I was asking myself "why do I feel that I grow so much closer to God by doing Ironman?". 1 month after my Ironman, I think I understand why. I think it is because God is always with me during my training, during my race..from my ups and downs..He knows everything about it. You know, finishing Ironman is my dream and Ironman is a huge event; it is the toughest one day endurance event in the world. If someone has always been with you, and been there with you through thick and thin while you are pursuing your dream; your relationship with that someone will definitely be closer, and I think that's what happen between me and God. I did not do anything, it is just Him being there with me all the time and that what's make the difference.

I've always said that Ironman change my life, but now I realise that it is not Ironman that change my life. It is GOD who change my life through Ironman.

Keep Moving Forward

When we are faithful where we are God is faithful to open doors to bigger things. But we still have to move to get through them. So many young people say they are waiting on God’s leading, yet they are not moving to explore the opportunities right in front of them. Some of this stems from laziness, some from fear of failure, and the rest from simply misunderstanding how the leading of God works.

There is an old saying that goes, “The door of opportunity opens only to those who knock.” The point of the saying is that opportunities arise when you are looking for them. Jesus tells us to ask, seek and knock. Things usually start to happen once you start moving.

God’s leading often works the same way. He rarely plops opportunities onto the laps of couch potatoes. His favor rests on those who have prepared for bigger things through faithfulness in small things — and especially on those who have prepared, are looking for an opportunity, and keep on moving.

There is no better biblical example of this principle than the story of The Macedonian Call in the Book of Acts:

Acts 16:6-10 (ESV) “And [Paul, Silas, and Timothy] went through the region of Phygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithnynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.

So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately [they] sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called [them] to preach the gospel to them.”

At first glance this seems like a boring passage with a bunch of funny names in it, but if we look closely we can that God is teaching us important things about how He leads us to do His will. Put yourself in their shoes and see what you learn.

First, notice that they know that they are not supposed to go to Asia. That’s a lot like us sometimes. We know what we are not supposed to do, but we aren’t so sure about what we are supposed be doing.

Second, you see them setting out for Bithynia. We can guess they probably sat down and had some sort of pow-wow and decided that Bithynia was the place God wanted them to be. Imagine how easy it would be for them to get discouraged when on their way to do what they thought God wanted them to do the Holy Spirit stops them.

Now, if God has ever slammed the door in your face when you thought you were doing His will, you can probably relate to the confusion and the discouragement that this group may have been tempted to feel. What is God up to? What does He want me to do?

The most beautiful part of this story is the next line, where it says, “So… they went down to Troas.” Now this might not seem all that significant if you don’t take into account the context. They have been kept out of Asia and after thinking that God wanted them in Bithynia they have been kept out of there too. Twice the door has been shut in their faces. From a human standpoint they have every reason to say, “God, we have no idea what you want us to do, and frankly, we no longer care. Until you are willing to tell us plainly we are going to stay here and get comfortable.”

And to be honest, this is the way we are often tempted to respond. But instead, in a radical display of faith in God’s leading, they kept moving — they went down to Troas. And in Troas God sent a vision to Paul calling them to Macedonia and they were able to go immediately — the door was wide open.

Now to some people it may seem confusing that God waited until they got to Troas to call them to Macedonia. It would make more sense for Him to let them know right after He closed the door to Bithynia — kind of the whole “close a door, open a window” idea. But instead we see that God wanted them to keep going, to keep moving, even after two doors had been closed. Then, in response to their persistence, He opened the door of opportunity wide open.

What we see in the story of The Macedonia Call is a situation we can relate to and a principle that we can live by. We see how God was clearly guiding these early Christians, even when things seemed confusing or looked bleak to them — and we are encouraged in our own struggle to discern God’s will for our lives.

Furthermore, we learn God wants us to pursue every open door, confident that He will close them if they are not His will. As long as we are faithful to take advantage of what we have — our minds, God’s Word, the counsel of our parents, etc. — then we can move forward with full confidence that God will shut the door if we are not supposed to go through it.

This principle is crucial because many young people get paralyzed with the fear that they will choose the wrong college, the wrong career path, the wrong spouse, etc. and they stop moving. We are not saying that God will prevent us from ever making a horrible decision. But what we are saying is that when we are faithful to walk within the little bit of light that we have from our own knowledge and experience, from the advice of our parents and counselors, and most importantly, from God’s Word, we can make decisions confidently trusting that God will honor our steps of faith by clearly opening or closing the door — our part is to keep moving forward.

The Lord's workers worked hard for the past 2 days and we have all been seeing fruits!! :)

Thank God for the many people and staffs who sacrificed their time to come down to SIM to help us!! :)

Since then, we have gathered approx. more than 50 Christian contacts and 30 non Christian contacts who are willing to know more about God! :) Praise God! There will be more to come!

Pray for us as we continue our final day in SIM for the recruitment. We were stopped by the security guard yesterday about 4plus pm just when we were about to end our recruitment drive for the day. The security guard took our flyer and warned us about continuing our recruitment... may God reign and soften the heart of the mr security! :)

CAMPUS MISSION 2007 (CM2007)

CM2007 aka Campus Mission 2007 is the first global conference held and organised by CCC where 20,000 students from 129 different countries came together to share testimonies, learn about God's word & will and my favouritest reason of all, to simply come together as ONE body, one family in Christ to praise and worship HIM.

Our SIM CCC had 3 representatives, namely Ezra, Grace and myself! Andy and Pearlyn were supposed to join us too but due to unforseen circumstances (like chicken pox), they had to pull out at the last moment..

The conference was held over a span of 6 days, during which we had speakers such as Steve Douglass, Ken Cochrum, George Verwer (big names with big roles in the 'Christian community') come speak to us on magnifying Christ, connecting minds and completing the mission (our 3 themes). We also had students and staff from various countries share with us their testimonies and stories of love and most importantly, of faith. Each student also had the chance to choose 4 seminars out of 26 different ones to attend according to their preference of topics and issues.

Though it was pretty draining and heavy (hard to absorb) for the brain sometimes, bulk of the sessions/seminars/talks I attended were really helpful to me in my spiritual life and I truly felt God with me in the midst of all the worship and praying times.

After the conference, about half of us from Singapore plus many others from other countries took part in a "Beggars' Mission", which literally translates to groups of students walking around Korea like Beggars who are doing Mission work, i.e. we do not carry a single cent with us and by faith, trust God to provide us with food, shelter and transportation whilst we visit really really rural villages to evangelise.

it was a real eye opening experience! entering grounds where people farmed for a living, having to hitch-hike lorries and vans for rides, 'trekking' around on dirt roads for miles and miles and the most magical, watch God provide us with food too much to finish, beautiful clean places to sleep at, showers that had warm water... the list goes on.

Truly, this trip has been an amazing experience for me, getting to learn about God's word, meet other Christians from around the world and praise and worship God together as one - " to have a taste of how it'll be like in heaven" (as they always say), hear about how God's hand is moving across different nations and how He is working wonders in different people's lives.. and then being able to evangelise even with a language barrier, etc etc etc. I could go on forever about what I've learnt but I think the most I took away from this trip was from the Koreans I met.. their humility and sincerity towards others, and most importantly, their passion for Christ and their attitude in praying - these Korean friends constantly live out the Philippians 4:6, presenting EVERYTHING in prayer and petition with thanksgiving to God!! =)

Of course, these few paragraphs I've typed do injustice to the time spent and lessons learnt whilst I was in Korea.. but I'm just glad that I'm able to share about my experience during my virgin trip with Campus Crusade.

Hi guys,
Just wanna share a lil about my trip to Cambodia. My trip was great, fun, fufilling and i could see God's blessing throughout our trip. We were blessed with good food, though simple but really tasty. The programs, preparations of skits, mime, canival and telematch went on smoothly. Actually this trip was quite unplanned but praise God that everything went on well. The unity and cooperateness of the team was awesome too. The Lord just put people into the right places to do his work and to bless others. The children were very appreciative too.

Through this trip, i have also learned to be humble that I can be joyful in serving in wherever i am. On one of the days, it was after the rain and it was raining bugs. Bugs just kept falling and we have to sleep with it. God showed me that it is not only when we have comfortable things then we praise him. God also taught me that even doing little things for him can be pleasing to his sight.

At times i may feel really tired as we have to do program in the day and preparation at night but i just want to thank the Lord for giving me strength and substaining me throughout the trip.
I was the treasurer for this trip, so had to pay for the teams' expenses and do the accounts everyday. Sometimes was quite confusing cause they mix Riels and USD. Today was the closing of accounts and everything balance. You won't know how relieve i am.
So, Glory to God for everything.

Eileen's prayer calendar (Cambodia mission trip)

During our mission trip in Cambodia, we would be focusing mainly on medical clinics, primary schools, orphanages and village work. We'll be handling a lot of children's ministry work as well as provide medical aid to villagers (de-licing hair). Attached is a brief schedule of what we'll be doing in Cambodia from 12 th – 22nd June.

Below is a daily prayer calendar, which you can follow and pray for us:

12 June
- Journey mercy to Phnom Penh

Flight No: 3K591

Departure Time: 07 05am

Terminal 1

- Dr Castro (missionary doctor who'll be liaising with us) will be able to meet us at Phnom Penh and provide us with an insightful and enriching historical and cultural orientation. Pray that we will be sensitive and respectful to the culture there.
- Pray that we'll be able to find and buy cheap drinkable water bottles, food necessities that we need and some logistics for our activities.
- Pray for team cooperation and bonding while finalizing the program preparation for the next day.
- Pray for the translators to be eloquent and able to translate English to Cambodian language accurately, in a way that the people can understand.
- Pray for good weather (not too hot and not wet) so we won't feel so tired easily.

13 June
- Pray that we will be able to work cooperatively and effectively with the Cambodian doctors and attentiveness in listening to the doctors' instructions carefully.
- Pray that God will heal the sick as we visit a medical clinic village near Phnom Penh Garbage Dump.
- Pray for courage, love and patience as we share the gospel to the people at Phnom Penh.
- Pray that God will open up and soften the hearts of the people.

14 June
- Journey mercy as we travel to Kampong Thom
- pray for energy as the team gets ready all the preparation work to reach out to the orphanages and schools.
- Even though language might be a barrier for us, pray that God's message will still be able to transcend through and be understood by the Cambodians.
- Pray also for good adaptation and strength to live outside our comfort zone.

15 June
- Pray for the children at Kumro primary school to be interested and participate at the carnival.
- Pray for opportunities to reach out to these primary school kids.
- Pray for good weather
- Pray for the hearts of the people living at the orphanages to be softened.
- Pray that our team puts on the full armor of God as we reach out to these people of different age groups.

16 June
- Pray for the team to be able to connect with the secondary school kids at Chea Sim High School through the activities planned such as games and skits.
- Pray that God will prepare the people He has chosen to come hear the message during the Young People's Fellowship at Solid Rock Baptist Church (evangelistic event) and also for hearts to be softened.
- Pray for the team to be constantly fixing our eyes on God amidst all the busy schedules.

17 June
- Pray that God will speak to us during the service at Solid Rock Baptist Church.
- Pray that the non-christians in our team (Li Lin, Hazel, Hui San, Angela) will not feel uneasy. Instead, they'll be interested and willing to join the rest of the team for service and pray that God will open up their hearts.
- Pray for journey mercy to Kampong Thom

18 June
- Pray that we will shower love, patience and care to the villagers at the medical clinic.
- Pray that God will place His healing hands on these ill villagers.
- Pray for opportunities for us to speak to these villagers, in a manner that is loving, unthreatening and understandable.

19 June
- Journey mercy to Siem Reap
- Pray that the check in process will be smooth
- Pray for good adaptation at Siem Reap
- Pray for strength, perseverance and energy to get ready the preparation work for next day's program.
- Pray also for good rest and God to rejuvenate us for the next day of ministry work.

20 June
- Pray for God to minister the hearts of the school children at Kown Muk Village and the people at the Village Medical Clinic at Manna Center.
- Pray that the school children will be interested and participative in the games.
- Pray for God to heal the people at the village medical clinic at Manna center.
- Pray for us to be sensitive to their needs, and spread God's love to all these people.
- Pray for courage and patience to share God's word to them

21 June
- Pray for good rest for all the team members as we enjoy a day of cultural orientation, where we get to explore the ruins of Angkor Wat Temples.
- Pray that it'll be an enriching and insightful day.
- Pray that we'll be able to learn something new about the Cambodian culture.

22 June
- Pray for journey mercy as we travel back to Singapore

Also, please do pray for each team member to be healthy so we can all do greater works for God. Some of our team members have fallen sick during the past week; some have recovered while some have not. Pray that God will place His healing hands on those who've yet to recover and pray that those that have recovered will continue to take good care of their bodies.

Above all, do pray for the team to be bonded and united as one body in Christ at all times and also be mindful of each other's personal and living habits and be sensitive to each other. Pray that throughout the whole trip, we'll show love, care and concern unto one another just as how Jesus has loved us. Most importantly, do pray that each one of us will remain focused on God no matter how busy or tired we may be. Pray for us to be vigilant and wary of the evil one, and God to be our protector and provider of strength and comfort always.

all our exams are over :)

i have a thanksgiving to share with y'all :) actually it ain't mine, but i'm going to do it on behalf of Vanessa. she's going to S.Thailand in the mission team consisting of both jasmine and kerin as well...

if y'all are in tune with some of the happenings of her mission trip preparation, you would probably be aware that her parents (especially her mum) had been vehemently against her going to thailand.

i remember she called me on 24th may (thur), just before our corporate finance paper, very disappointed that up till that day, her mother still flatly rejected her request to go for the mission trip. clydia (her team staff) needed her answer to whether she could make it for the trip on 26th may (sat) as the confirmation was required for the purchasing of air tickets.

God had been faithful in many areas—the dream that led to her signing up, her fears, support raising (although it was very tough) and blood test (another story for her to tell)—yet it seemed to her that the biggest obstacle to the trip (parental approval) was His way of telling her that it was not His will.

it is difficult to explain in my words what she felt accutely; but i do know that it was an extremely painful thought to bear that God would "disappoint" her thus far. still, she prayed fervently and learnt to trust Him.

that sunday, she updated me on the fact that God had suddenly removed a part of the blockade—her dad was to meet up with silin (crusade staff and another of her team staff) on 28th may (mon) to discuss about the trip—finally.

to cut the already long story short, i received this text message from her on 31st may (thur):
Hi hi, my parents allow me 2 go 4 e mission trip even tho they noe abt e bombings.. So amazing, God soften their hearts n made a wat =) praise God..
Thanks 4 ur prayers.. N do con 2 pray 4 my support raisin.. Thanks.. =) there may b a change in my destination, probably 2 north east thai, e crusade leadership team is still sortin things out n makin arrangements.. Do keep them in prayers too.. God bless..

well, i hope i have done justice to vanessa’s biographic testimony. lol well, it is just to encourage us of our faith in our Lord as well as encourage you to update us of any thanksgiving you have too :)

Hello fellow crusaders, haven't been blogging for a long long while. some updates that we just got today. :)

our team is still heading towards south thailand but not towards Hat Yai. we're heading further down south, more towards central thailand, away from the areas of unrest. during this time, now that we've a definite destination in mind, it would be helpful if you partner us in prayer.

1. that the staff will be able to iron all logistics and admin stuff before we leave on sunday.
2. that we'll be able to get tickets within 5 days.
3. for the area which we're heading towards, for God to soften the ground and to awaken the people.
4. for team unity and a convergence of vision.
5. safety of the team.

Going for mission for 18 days from 9th June to 27th June...

1. Currently, due to the bombings, there is a change in destination..

We would probably go to North Thai or NorthEast Thai instead of Hat Yai n Songkla.

All the details hav yet to be confirmed...

- our exact destination

- the campus we r going to

- accomodation

- air tickets r not booked yet

Some other concerns: dorno if there is enugh translators, will there b ppl to receive us.. There are already 2 teams tat went ahead of us to North thai.. If our team go too, they r abt 50 ppl in total frm crusade, n mayb even more den the strength of the small churches there...

Because of the uncertainty in our destination, we r not sure if we can carry out some of our activities as planned... English lessons for Thai ppl.. Our 3 skit... we all ned to act... Spore Nite... singing lessons... Jasmine ned to think of pop songs to teach the Thai ppl... Other den tat, we r playing games, cooking, showing them abt spore culture...

The staff, Eliza r arranging with the ministry over in Thai, to find out if they can receive our team there.. Please pray tat God give her wisdom n guidance in arranging all the details out for us... Pray tat she will nt be stress as there is really a lot to do n we r running out of tym...

Altho there is a lot of uncertainties, Thank God tat he gave us peace... Our team members are lik so relax... Haha... In the midsts of practising our skits and planning the activities..

2. We need an amt of $850 for support raising.. If any of u r interested to support any of us, pls contact us.. Hopefully asap, cos we ned our support raise by Sunday.. =) Thanks... Thank God for his providence so far!!!

It is a moment for us as Christians to gather as a holy assenbly unto the Lord in prayer for our nation and world (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

It is a moment to worship the Lord Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords, a celebration in worship of Him - The King of Glory. That when our Lord Jesus is lifted up from the earth, He will draw all men to Himself (John 12:32).

It is a moment for us to recognise God's mighty hand in the spiritual dynamics of GDOP and to participate in humility for His glory.

Hey everyone!! How has it been in the misdst of the exams? Well my soci paper really kiled my morale today.. felt very emotionally down as circumstances did not turn out to my liking.. But this compelled me to want to share something with all of you! which i learnt from teaching my cell group! Irony huh? i taught this in my cell group and God is now asking me to live it out! Plus this song on out blog really spells it all!!

Here Goes..
Joshua had just led the people successfully into victory over Jericho as he heeded every word and instrction given by God. Soon after, joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, to spy out the land. And they went into battle, fully confident of winning, but this time round, instead of victory, things went wrong! They were chased by the men of Ai, and about 36 men died in that battle... joshua failed! God seems to have failed in fighting the battle for them.. Imagine what the people of Israel must have felt? where did the victory go? what happened? In Joshua 7: 6-9, we see that joshua tore his cloths and fell on his face before the ark of God and cried..

Similar experieces felt? At the height of our joy and confidence, something goes terribly wrong.. I felt aibt like Joshua today after my soci paper.

But God is good! and as the song goes In Christ alone i place my trust! His faithfullness does not change dispite my circumstances! And soon i found my glory in the power of the cross, and in every victory, over my circumstances and emotionally down periods, let it be said that my source of strength and hope is in Christ alone! Our Strength is made perfect in Him!

So as Joshua was face down on the ground, God said, get up on your feet! Josh 7:10 GET UP! from our emotional slums because He said so! Get up because He and only He has the answer to life's qustions.. we can probably whine and tell a friend our sad story but ultimately only God can do something about it, and how we feel about our circumstances! He told Joshua what went wrong, that Achan had sinned and showed disregard for God in josh 6:16-19, 7:1, 11-12.

Today we have the Counselor living on the inside us John 16:7, 13 Lets get the answer from only the Counselor!

Could there be sin and disobedience in our lives? For me the Lord showed me that my disappoinment was due to the reliance on my own merit. Yes i studied supper hard for my paper! so i should be able to do reasonalble well. But the Lord was telling me that my victory was in the power of the cross.

So Joshua got moving in faith! He did not let his past failures condemnation, fear and bitterness hinder him from moving forward! so should We! Joshua gathered men again and this time he claimed victory over Ai! Praise God! I would have to experiece another type of victory, because the results will only be out in august! so do i stay face down till then? NO! My victory is over my emotions and doubts i might have with myself and for God!

Shining well

Thanks Grace for the appreciation for all of us! :)

Anyway, since the last few entries seem to be about evangelism, I just want to share something my church friend told me a few months ago; "Your relationship with God determine how bright you shine, but your relationship with men determine how well you shine."
Yes we can be brightest light around, having a great relationship with God, serving Him actively, drown ourself with the knowledge from the Bible and etc. But really, it would be a shame if we shine brightly for God, but we do not shine well because our relationship with men sucks. I encourage all of you guys to continue to shine brightly and shine well too!

to my dg girls (05/06 and 06/07) winnie, vanessa, jasmine, kerin, fiona and sheryl: thank you for patiently listening to me during our sessions together. i love the way you've all grown in different ways and most importantly, closer to the Lord.

to the guys james, zavier, ezra and tian hao: it's interesting to see such brotherly love and bonds displayed. i love the way you guys take the initiative to ask each other to study together, jog together and explore together.

to yvonne, robin, samuel, wei tat (who is no longer in sim), eileen, stephanie and peiwen: thank you for joining us and making us run as we should in a ministry. i love the way the body of Christ functions well because of you.

hi people..

i am here to blog.. no lah, just here to write something!
anyway i was with my friend, jon, at coffee bean studying today. then while we were studying with him, i began to talk to him to distract him. but while he was talking abt how he spend his weekend, he told me that he went to his grandparents grave yest as ching ming is round the corner..

so i saw an oppotunity to share to him the gospel. yup. so i began by asking him alot of qns abt his religion and show my interest in wat he says.. then i began to share with him abt christianity and abt how christian is different from other religion. and not just abt our religion but why God send his son down to the cross to die for us. i just wanna share with u guys a few things that i've learnt today although i think i didnt really do a good job in sharing the gospel today. hope my 5cents worth of thots can trigger some fire in u to participate in God's battle!

1) never give up an opportunity when the Holy Spirit prompts u to share the gospel. if God wants you to share, he will give u the correct words to say so dun worry, just do it FOR GOD! just like when steven, filled with the Holy spirit, spoke to the sanhedrein b4 he was stoned by the people!

2) show interest in your friend's religion too. if u dun show interest in his life, how will he dev the interest in urs too. so ask him abt his religion but dun get too engrossed in his til u have no time to share urs! when he share his religion to u, u can use it to ur advantage. like my friend was saying abt buddha was a indian prince..... then i was telling him that buddha was just a ordinally human that pointed to some enlightened way of life but he didnt proclaim he was god. he agreed with me on that b4 i shared to him that i believed that our God is the 1 and oni true God!

3)never force it on him to believe. He was sharing to me his past bad experiences with Christians who tried to force Christianity down his throat. Moderation with wisdom is required when sharing the gospel to our friends. Remember that it is only our duty to share and to pray, whether or not he accept is up to the Holy Spirit’s conviction and his own free will. Do share your own personal experiences with your friends, as one cannot deny or disagree with wat you had have experienced with your own life. A testimony add meat to the skeleton structure of the gospel. But I think it is a must to share wat Jesus has done for us on the cross and that He rose on the 3rd day!

4)share as clearly as possible which I think I didn’t do well today in doing so. You never know that that may be the last and only chance that you have to share the gospel to your friend. So do make full use of the opportunity. Learn as many methods to share the gospel as possible so that u can be flexible to use any1 that u know to the advantage of your situation. I do know a few methods, so do feel free to approach me if you wanna know more. J but methods just being methods. God can use a fisherman to build his 1st church, He can surely use you to extend his kingdom even though you don’t know the methods. Have the heart and God will use you. “without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not”

5)follow up is impt. After sharing with jon, I actually challenged jon to really go search for the true religion and after searching to really believe in it with all his heart, trust me ppl, if someone will to really go seek the true God, only our God will show himself as the 1 and only true God. Amen!
“you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” Jeremiah 29:13

And stastically, it takes 7 times for someone to hear the gospel to actually choose to believe in it. So do not give up trying as you may be the 7th person to share the gospel to ur friend. And don’t be discouraged if your friends reject the gospel. Our God is a sovereign God and its all up to him and He is in full control.
“it does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.” Romans 9:16
(Romans 9 is all abt God’s sovereignty so if you are feeling that God is unfair in any ways, do read Romans 9)

Yup. All the points that I’ve written are “wat I think then wat i write points” so do forgive me that its not so organized and for any mistakes in it. But I strongly believe that if we can catch God heartbeat then God will definitely use us for his glory! I hope wat I have share had spur you to save 1 more for Jesus

daily study sessions!

hello. i came up with an idea of daily study sessions yesterday. this is because when you're at home, the inertia is very great, although it is more productive when you do start. when you get out of the house, you get down to work faster, but it tends to be more unproductive. so the solution? daily study sessions in school! :) this is how it's gonna work.

we'll have study sessions from 10 - 5, mondays to fridays. probably be the benches on the 4th floor, or if there're no available benches, then we can use the library. :) the point is that people come together to study. we'll also have periodic worship sessions. and if you've revision workshops, you can just come and go as and when. we could break in the middle for lunch and head out for dinner together if you all want to. it's not compulsary, so if you want to make it down for the study sessions, then come. if you don't, by all means stay at home and study. :)

the study sessions starts on the 2/04/2007, the coming monday. so we'll meet at the 4th floor. i'll try to secure benches. not sure which lt it'll be close to, but more details will be posted by sunday. :)

The world needs...
Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man who’s sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

How it all started:
“I'd been living in London when my world turned upside down and I'd had to come home. By the time my plane landed back in Sydney, all I had left was a carry on bag full of clothes and a world of troubles. No one to welcome me back, no place to call home. I was a tourist in my hometown.

Standing there in the arrivals terminal, watching other passengers meeting their waiting friends and family, with open arms and smiling faces, hugging and laughing together, I wanted someone out there to be waiting for me. To be happy to see me. To smile at me. To hug me.

So I got some cardboard and a marker and made a sign. I found the busiest pedestrian intersection in the city and held that sign aloft, with the words "Free Hugs" on both sides.

And for 15 minutes, people just stared right through me. The first person who stopped, tapped me on the shoulder and told me how her dog had just died that morning. How that morning had been the one year anniversary of her only daughter dying in a car accident. How what she needed now, when she felt most alone in the world, was a hug. I got down on one knee, we put our arms around each other and when we parted, she was smiling.

Everyone has problems and for sure mine haven't compared. But to see someone who was once frowning, smile even for a moment, is worth it every time.”

Juan Mann felt that in this world, there is social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, as such the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal. From a normal activity like this, it became a world-wide phenomenon.

From newspapers to websites and blogs, we see many needs arising in this world. But what is the most pressing need? Juan Mann felt it was the need for hugs. There are many needs like physical needs such as shelter, food, clean water and money to emotional needs such as assurance and friends.
If you pick 100 people and ask them what is their most pressing need? We’ll probably get different answers. All of these needs would be short sighted except one: that is “The world needs Jesus.”

We see in Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

In Luke 10 Jesus sends out the seventy-two:
1After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Point #1: The harvest is great but the workers are few.
According to the Religiontolerance.org is an organization that tracks religions and religion beliefs all around the world, and they came up with a really disturbing statistics:

* Weigel states: "...Christians were 34.5 percent of world population in 1900, and will be 33.1 percent in 2002." 6
* We receive many Emails from Muslims and Hindus who honestly believe that their religion is the largest in the world. The available data seems to indicate that they are wrong. However, at current rates, Islam will overtake Christianity as the world's dominant religion later in the 21st century.

They track on the top 20 beliefs system in the world and see how they are doing. They said that there are only 2 belief systems out of the 20 that are on the decline, all the rest are either on the plateau or growing. And what are the two? Christianity and those that has no religions at all. You get the implication?

More people are believing in something, but they are just not believing in Jesus.
The harvest is great but the workers are few.

Point #2: Do the actual business!
Paul says in 2timothy 4:5, “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” In Greek, an evangelist means “somebody who brings good news”

Here Paul is exhorting Timothy to be strong, to endure hardships and to do the work of an evangelist. This is the work or business that Timothy is to do – to preach the gospel to all. It was going to be tough: that’s why Paul urged Timothy to endure, even though others may be turning away.

Paul also says in 2timothy 2:2, “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” Here he urged Timothy to pass down the things he has learnt from Paul to other people who would be able to pass them and teach them to get other people.

In the same way, God desire for us to do the actual business of sharing the good news and building up Christians – to teach them the truths of God’s word so that they could in turn teach others. This is commonly called Spiritual Multiplication. The person who does this is a Spiritual Multiplier.

I received Christ when I was 14 years old, but back then there were no one to teach me the word of God. Thank God for the small group of brave Christians in my secondary school who willingly shared Christ with me. However after that, I was not followed up and I even choose not to get into a discipleship group. As a result, I had no influence or community to build me up and I back-slided. It was only when I entered the University that I met my first Spiritual Leader – Shirley, who then built into the life of my 2nd Spiritual leader – Candy, who in turn built into our lives including mine and I in turn built into the lives of my discipleship group students.

Some say, “I am not an evangelist! I’m just a student!” So?
Then let me ask you this: are you a Christian who happened to be a student or a Student who happened to be a Christian?

In the book "Spiritual Leadership" by J.Oswald Sanders, he says that God confers a leadership role, and the Spirit of God goes to work through him.
Jesus speaks to his disciples clearly "whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all." Mark 10:43-44
He also says "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you" (John 15:16)

Are you willing to be used by God? If God called you to serve, will you reject Him?

A.W.Tozer wrote: A true and safe leader is likely to be one who has no desire to leade, but is forced into a position by the inward pressure of the Holy Spirit and the press of [circumstances]...There was hardly a great leader from Paul to the present day but was drafted by the Holy Spirit for the task, and commissioned by the Lord to fill a position he has little heart for...

Point #3: Expect trouble and persecution
Luke 10:3 it says, “Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.”
Here Jesus is telling his disciples that he is sending them as lambs among wolves à that’s “encouraging”

What are wolves like?

- bloody and cruel, ready to pull you to pieces
- howling wolves threaten and scares to terrify you
- ravening wolves persecute to tear you

Wolves can be in the form of our goliaths in our world today who causes us to fall victim to:

- materialism

- lack of concern for God and eternity
o (Luke12:13-21, about The Parable of the Rich Fool who stores up things for himself but is not rich towards God)

- its pursuit of pleasure and status above all else
o (1John 2:15-17, The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.)

But Jesus tell us that we must be as lambs, peaceable and patient, though made an easy prey of. It would have been very hard thus to be sent forth as sheep among wolves, if the Lord had not endued us with His spirit and courage.

People are killed for their faith right now.

A guy from a Muslim country and was walking down the street, he met this Christian who shared the gospel with him. And in a few mins he gave his life to Jesus.

The man exclaimed, “wow, this is it! How can I miss out on such a truth for so many years!” and he headed home quickly to share this good news to the others in the village. Upon hearing the gospel, the people in the village beat him up and threw him outside of the village. The man then exclaimed, “how can this be? How can they not agree or understand the truth that speaks so clearly to me? I must have left something out about the truth.” And he head back to the lady to find the missing pieces. The 2nd time he headed home to share the news again, he was astounded to find them beating him up and throwing curses and swearing at him. This is happening every moment while we have the pleasures of sitting amidst under a shelter.

The gospel is hard to share, but we must still pass on the urgent message of salvation! What is the most pressing need or business of this world?

Conclusion
In Luke 10:9 Jesus say “Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.”

Have we been doing our “original” business as Christ followers? To tell them that the kingdom of God is near them? Have we fall to victims to the “wolves” around us? Have we been so occupied with getting fame, status and degrees that we forgot the purpose of us as Christians in our school?

In Luke 10:23-24 Jesus said, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."”

Are you committed to own this mission of God as Christ followers together? To see the church in your school expand and grow as sacrificial followers?

I have to imagine that these 72 followers expanded to 120 that first started a church in Acts, then this church grew from 120 people to 3000 in one day and these disciples just kept expanding until they reach Jerusalem, then they scattered to Judea and Samaria and eventually to the ends of the earth, and here we are.

If it’s not for the multiplication that God had planned, and Paul has exhorted to Timothy in 2Timothy2:2, we wouldn’t be here today growing and knowing the Lord.

There are indeed many people with various needs around us, people who are in need to have salvation. We are like the 72, with an urgent message to share to the people around us. We need to open the door of salvation to the rest and to build into the lives to share with other reliable men who will in turn share with others.

The harvest is great but the workers are few. Will you own this business of God’s?
Before I end, I would like to share about a life with you.

Rachel Joy Scott, died at the age of 17, was like the original 72. She served faithfully for the Lord during her whole school life in Columbine High. She persists in sharing the good news and to continue to persevere to build truth into the lives of her friends around her, even until her final breath before the bullet was shot through her mid forehead. Will you give your life to the Lord to be used by Him?
Will you be like Racheljoyscott?
Will you take up the role of a Spiritual Multiplier in your school in SIM - which is to lead and mentor Disciples and DGs?

I am not calling us to die, like Rachel Joy Scott, but just to be used by God.

Journey to become Ironman

I used to feel very uneasy/shy when people commented that I'm going for Ironman. I don't know why, I guess I just don't want to sound boastful or trying to belittle other people's physical achievement (for example finishing a 10km run might be something big for other people). Normally I will just give a quick "yes, I'm going for Ironman" reply without sharing with them or explain to them more wat is Ironman (alot of people know it's an endurance triathlon event, but they don't really know how long the distance is, just for your info it is 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42km run and yes we do it all within a day. 17hours cut-off time to be exact).

I'll be going to Langkawi in 2days time to try to fulfil my dream of becoming Ironman. The journey is not easy; sacrifices to be made, money to be spent, friends to be ignored, responsibility to be push around, less time to do other things (like sleeping and studying) and it's not easy. I've learnt alot of things within this past 6months or so after I started training seriously for Ironman. I've learnt more about my own physical strength and limit, self-discipline, time-management, swim more efficiently, cycle more aerodynamically, run faster, self-confidence, focus...and many other things

God has blessed me with body, mind and soul to be able to train for Ironman. He has blessed me financially, a good place to train (Singapore), good people to mix around with (my friends, crusaders and triathlon mates), time to prepare myself and basically everything I need to conquer Ironman.

One of the most precious thing I learnt about God during this journey is that He's proud and happy of what I'm doing (training and going for Ironman). A.W Tozer wrote: "God enjoys his creation. The apostle John says frankly that God's purpose in creation was His own pleasure. God is happy in His love for all that He has made. We cannot miss the feeling of pleasure in God's delighted references to his handiwork. Psalm 104 is a divinely inspired nature poem almost rhapsodic in its happiness, and the delight of God is felt throughout it. "The glory of the Lord shall endure forever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works."
I'm happy to know that when I'm swimming, cycling, runnning and pushing my body to achieve higher level of physical fitness.....He's out there smiling :)
And I know that on 24th February 2007, when I'm out there alone swimming, cycling and running, He'll be up there encouraging me and cheering me on to the finishing line!

So with that in mind, I am PROUD of my journey to become Ironman; when people comment/say that I'm going for Ironman I'll reply with much pride and conviction "Yes, I'm going for Ironman...."

It's been a blessed 6months of training and with 4 more days to go, I just can't wait to cross that finishing line and finally say "Yes...I am an Ironman..."

I hope all of you Crusaders will be encouraged by this journey of mine and see God's wonderful love for all of us through this short testimony.
Take pride in your service for God as He takes pleasure in all of you!

the journey lasted all but 4 weeks... the labour and the joy, the blessings and the pain. yet, nothing else can be compared to the magnificence of our Lord. we give all praise and thanks to Him who has made all things possible for His glory :)))

i am sure that all who attended—believer and non-believer—took away a piece of the message of God's love with them. let's also praise God for tian hao's friend who has opened his heart to know more about Christ. let us cont' to keep loving, praying and being watchmen for the students in SIM as well as our pre-believing friends!
